Smart Habits Saturday - My Shiny Sink

Laura over at The Lazy Organizer has been hosting Smart Habits Saturday all year long. I recently came across her blog and thought that is such an awesome idea! I should join in! But I never got around to actually sitting down and making a plan. Until now.

This past week, I have (with Hubby's help, of course) begun to establish a habit of exercise. We already take karate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and that's great, but we both need more exercise than just twice a week. So we went walking on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights after supper. About 3.5 miles each night. Eventually we will be able to run that.

This next week the habit I am going to add to my list is a shiny sink. I'm tired of always having a pile of dirty dishes stacked up around my sink. We have a dishwasher, for crying out loud! How hard is it to put clean dishes away and hide the dirty ones in the dishwasher until it's full enough to wash a load? Surely it can be done! My plan is to make sure all dirty dishes have been loaded in the dishwasher before I go to bed each night. If it's full, start the dishwasher. In the mornings before we leave for work, put away any clean dishes. My kitchen sink should be clean and ready for me to use as I prepare supper each night.

In the past, I've tried to use FLYLady to help me with my housework, and I'm likely to incorporate some of those techniques and philosophies in my habit-building now (a shiny sink is the first habit you are encouraged to establish in the FLYLady system). Honestly, the main reason I stopped FLYing was because I got tired of having a website tell me which room of my house needed my focus that particular week. But the basic premise behind the FLYLady system is sound.

Glad you joined in. I haven't been doing SHS for very long, but it really is helpful! I love your shiny sink habit...I need to go visit FlyLady!

Welcome to the SMARTy pants club {as I affectionately call it}. It's a great place of encouragement, ideas & accountability {to yourself}. My first habit was clearing out my dishes at night as well. It makes such a difference in the morning to not have 'the pile' staring me down. Good luck this week!

Hi and welcome......I have never been great at keeping to new habits but for some reason this works for me......hopefully it will work for you too. Good luck with the shiny sink. I am pretty good at this myself, its the rest of the house I need to work on. Maybe I should look up flylady. Good luck this week and seeya next week

My sink is shiny... underneath the dirty dishes!

Good habits it seems are as hard to establish as bad ones are to eliminate. Hmmm, there's a revelation for today...

I always love it when I have a clean kitchen! It makes the rest of the house seem cleaner, too! Good luck!
