Weekend in Review

It seems our social life is starting to pick up now that we've been here a good solid month. Friday night we had a dinner date with one of the elders from the congregation we've been worshipping with and his wife. There were 4 couples total and, while we were the youngest by a good 30 years, we had a really good time. It was reminiscent of the good ol' Southern hospitality I thought we had left behind. Great food, friendly company, and an altogether comfortable atmosphere. We even played a game after dinner - Worst Case Scenario. Guys vs girls, of course. And the ladies totally kicked tushie :)

Saturday afternoon the one college friend we knew of in the area called us up and asked if we wanted to get together. The answer was a great big DUH! We met up with Kyle at the Scottsdale Fashion Square and walked around the mall catching up with each other. Then we drove down to the Tempe Marketplace and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen - excellent, by the way.

Sunday morning we took the advice that the lady we sat next to last week gave us. She told us that most of the "young people" sit on the other side of the auditorium, so we thought maybe we'd meet people closer to our age over there. Wow. We were overwhelmed with introductions and even scored a lunch invite with a group. Not exactly our age, but less than 15 years older than us is a good start.

So in spite of the cold or sinus thing or whatever it is that has taken up residence in my head, it was a great weekend. And I survived my first day at work, too. But that's another post for another time.

You're killing me here!!! I was all set to read about your first day of work, looking forward to some more of your excellent kiddie tales. However, I am very glad to hear that you're meeting folks and making friends. We felt quite a bit like you did when we first moved to Memphis and it really was the Church family that helped us feel at home, moreso than anyone else we met during that first year. Miss you guys! ~D
