Thursday Thirteen # 28 - karate terminology


Karate Terminology
(In honor of my theme this week, I shall be counting in Japanese.)



Ichi: dojo = training area or school

Ni: sensei = teacher

San: bunkai = application of techniques practiced in kata

Shi: gi = karate uniform

Go: hai = yes

Roku: seiza = sit

Shichi: sempai = senior student

Hachi: obi = the karate belt

Ku: kihon = basic techniques

Ju: ki = energy

Juuichi: kiai = a loud shout accompanying a strong technique

Juuni: karateka = one who practices karate

Juusan: dachi = stance

very cool list! The only word on your list I had ever heard before was "dojo". Now, with a little practice, I'll be able to count, too!!!
